** This is a salaried position with a regular schedule. However, flexibility is required to address emergencies that may arise.

       

Position Purpose

 

Responsible for all Custodial staff supervision and the overall cleanliness, sanitation, security, safety and maintenance of the assigned facility, buildings, grounds and equipment. Manage custodial personnel schedules and time, custodial inventory and equipment, custodial expenditures, building repairs and maintenance, seasonal and special projects, building use and building systems and operations of the assigned school. This is a full-time, or 1.0 FTE, position with benefits. This position is salaried on the classified salary scale (link).

 

 

Essential Job Functions

  • Under direct supervision of the Superintendent, School Principal, and Maintenence provide responsible daily custodial operations, maintaining a sanitary and safe facility for students, employees and the public
  • Ensures that assignments are completed in a safe, proper and timely manner and overseeing and supporting assigned custodians in the performance of their assignments
  • Oversee in the selection, assignment, scheduling and training of the custodial staff.
  • Assisst with maintenance and repair work, maintaining a high standard of safety, cleanliness and efficiency.
  • Monitor the time records of all custodial employees in the school and certifies them for salary payments.
  • Maintain an inventory and recommends purchase of suitable supplies, tools and equipment.
  • Evaluate the performance of the custodial staff on a regular basis.
  • Strive constantly to promote the safety, health and comfort of the students and employees.
  • Cleans assigned school facilities (e.g. classrooms, offices, gym, restrooms, grounds) for the purpose of maintaining a sanitary, safe work environment
  • Delivers various items and materials (e.g. supplies, mail, packages, furniture) for the purpose of ensuring adequate supplies to the appropriate parties
  • Performs miscellaneous duties as requested by faculty and staff to include lockers, doors, lighting, desks, clean up, etc. 
  • Inspects school facilities for the purpose of ensuring that the site is suitable for safe operations, maintained in clean condition, and identifying necessary repairs
  • Maintains active custodial substitute lists for the purpose of scheduling substitutes as necessary, including floating custodian assignments
  • Oversees minor maintenance work performed by custodial staff
  • Meets with School Board, supervisors and custodians to provide reports on building needs and conditions
  • Assists with safety drills, scenarios and real-life situations as needed and directed. 
  • Checks buildings and grounds to ensure that they are properly cleaned
  • Ensures shrubs, lawns and flower beds are trimmed clean and safe
  • Arranges furniture and equipment for the purpose of providing adequate preparations for meetings, classroom activities and events
  • Maintains records relating to employees' time, performance and overtime list
  • Works with school district employees, service companies and contractors to maintain and improve the work environment
  • Works with school principals or designee developing work orders
  • Solicits price proposals from vendors for supplies and equipment and assists with soliciting of price proposals from outside contractors
  • Instructs custodial employees on how to respond to system failures, location shut off procedures for water, fire sprinklers, gas and electric
  • Trains assigned personnel for the purpose of developing professional trade and safety awareness skills
  • Attends in-service training (e.g. blood born pathogens, cleaning solvents, floor care, first aid, etc.) for the purpose of receiving information on new and/or improved procedures
  • Performs other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring a clean, safe work environment
  • Use hand tools of trade and related power equipment, including brooms, mops, floor cleaning and waxing machines, vacuum cleaners, snow blowers, shovels, power mower and hand tools
  • Cleans hazards, including bodily fluids, spills, etc. per best practices and current regulations. 
  • Snow removal, lawn care and weed removal as needed. 
  • Follows all applicable safety rules, procedures and regulations governing equipment and materials.
  • Reports minor and major building and facility related issues immediately to supervisor. 
  • Assist and works collaboratively with maintenance services on the repair and upkeep of the building. 
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.

Qualifications 

Any combination of education and experience providing the required skill and knowledge for successful performance would be qualifying. Typical qualifications would be equivalent to: 

  • High School or Vocational School Diploma or completion of sufficient education to successfully perform the duties of the position.
  • Previous successful experience in building management/custodial capacity or an equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • [State] Motor Vehicle Operator's license.

  8. Conditions include working inside and outside, working around machines with moving parts and moving objects, working closely with others, working alone, and traveling by car, van, bus.
