Activities Director (For 2026-27 School Year)

 

Description & Details

Cotopaxi Consolidated Schools, located in School District Fremont RE-3, is currently seeking an Activities Director to manage the school's athletic and activities programs, which includes coordinating schedules, ensuring compliance with regulations, hiring coaches, managing budgets, and overseeing the safety and well-being of participating students. This is a part-time stipend position without comprehensive benefits.

 

Responsibilities:

• Implement and enforce policy and procedures to ensure the protection and safety of the athletes, coaches and the athletic department's assets in accordance with state (CHASSA) and federal statutes and district policies
• Develop and administer program goals, objectives, and the long-range plans to attain and maintain the vision and mission of Cotopaxi  athletics and activities.
• Prepare a master calendar that includes conference and non-conference games/events.
• Attend and supervise activities and athletic events; share administrative duty at away contests equally with the principal and superintendent.
• Provide leadership and coordination of all athletic and activity programs for the district.
• Act as liaison between the community and school, which includes the school board, administration, coaches, and activity sponsors.
• Schedule homecoming, winter dance, prom, parent appreciation nights and sports banquets under the direction of the principal and superintendent.
• Supervise and direct the coaching and activity staff to ensure that state (CHSAA) requirements, federal statutes and district rules are adhered to.
• Represent the school as appropriate at various state (CHSAA), regional and national athletic and activity associations and meetings.
• Evaluate each athletic and activity program on an ongoing basis to maintain adequate coaching staff. Make recommendations to administrators, superintendent and school board as needed.
• Ensure the athletic and activity department programs and organizational structure is appropriate for supporting the district's current and future needs.
• Develop and implement appropriate rules and regulations governing the conduct of athletics, activities, participants and observers.
• Act as a mediator to resolve issues, concerns or problems regarding the athletic and activity programs from students, parents/guardians, school staff and the community members
• Inspect facilities and athletic fields for health and safety concerns and make recommendations and plans for improvements.
• Coordinate fair gym use for practices and games for all athletics and activities and give final clearance for the use of the gyms or the athletic fields.
• Ensure all student athletes are eligible to participate.
• Ensure proper student form(s) (insurance, attendance, medical) are obtained and maintained as required.
• Ensure each member of the athletic and activity staff maintains appropriate certification(s) if required and completes all personal development training (state associations, clinics, NFHS opportunities, etc.) as required.
• Ensure necessary athletic reports are prepared and maintained, including reports for district, state (CHSAA) and federal compliance purposes.
• Schedule game officials for each home athletic event, ensure contracts are signed, ensure payment arrangements are made and maintain an active file of officials.
• Ensure each home athletic event has game workers, ticket takers, announcers, clock operators, scorekeepers, line judges, etc.
• Supervise the coaches in the cleaning, storage, and maintenance of all athletic equipment and uniforms, including the maintenance of updated inventories.
• Provide leadership for and serve as liaison to district athletic booster clubs and fundraising committees.
• Other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications:

1. Middle school, high school or college level coaching or athletic department experience preferred
2. Ability to lead, inspire, motivate, and involve others to create quality learning and work environments for student athletes and staff.
3. Ability to communicate and mediate effectively with all staff, community and governing agencies
4. Creative and positive communication skills with the ability to problem solve effectively.
5. Strong organizational skills 
6. Ability to travel frequently within the state of Colorado

 

Experience and/or Knowledge:

• Demonstrate both leadership and management skills, work well with staff and the community, and communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
• Knowledge and understanding of Colorado school athletics and activities
• Operating knowledge of and experience with technology, word processing software, email, and basic office equipment. English language skills required.
